Why choose online piano lessons?

Online piano lessons to suit your needs

Even with piano lessons being taught online, we can still agree on aims and adjust the lessons to suit your individual needs. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Yes, I do use tried and tested traditional teaching methods, but I always take the goals of my music students into account. The music we study in our piano lessons, whether online or face-to-face, will be guided by your tastes and interests. Once the fundamentals of piano playing have been mastered, we can move on quickly to begin learning the music you enjoy playing.

How to get the most from online lessons

The question is, once you have decided to take piano lessons online, how do you make the most of that opportunity? Here are some tips to help you gain the most from your lessons.

  1. Always read the lesson notes. Each week, I will send notes from the lesson containing reminders on what we covered and what needs to be worked on for next time. To make the most of your time, try to read through these notes carefully and focus on the key points when you practice.

  2. Make sure that you have a good webcam or device, with the camera focused on your fingers and the keyboard. This will help me to see what you are doing well and what still needs work. If I can see your hands and posture clearly, it will be much easier to help you with the technical aspects of piano playing.

  3. Always print off digital copies of the music so that you can have it in front of you during the lesson. Sight-reading over your shoulder can be awkward and will slow down learning. It will also allow you to make notes on the sheet music as we progress with our lessons.

  4. This brings us to point four, always have a pencil to hand. It is important to make notes on the score during piano lessons. This way, you will have a visual record on the music of the corrections we have made, and a reminder during practice times of what you need to be working on.
